Nowhere
This week, an excerpt from Jon Claytor's forthcoming graphic novel, Nowhere
My friend Jon Claytor’s new book, Nowhere, will soon be published by Gooselane. It’s Gooselane’s first graphic novel—and what a great book to start with. I love this book. It’s funny and scary and relatable. It tells the story of a boy whose town exists in the shadow of a giant, mysterious cube; it’s a town overrun with monsters—including zombies, demon landlords, therapy-seeking vampires, and depressed clowns. So many clowns. The artwork is simple and evocative, gorgeously expressive, and the characters are drawn with so much compassion and love. After my first son was born, I remember asking Jon for some parenting advice—he told me that what a child needs most is to feel safe. And that’s largely what I think this book is about. It’s a really wonderful book, and I can’t wait for my copy to arrive.
In the meantime, here’s a short excerpt from Nowhere. Even though it’s not officially out until March 17, copies have already started mysteriously appearing on bookstore shelves. For more information about Claytor, you can visit is website.
